WHITTIER, Calif. (Nov. 24, 2025) – The Whittier College men's basketball team came up just short in a fast-paced, high-offense matchup on Monday afternoon, falling 99–90 to Lewis & Clark College at Dave Jacobs Court. Despite the loss, the Poets showcased strong individual performances and continued their efficient offensive play, hitting 90 points in every game now.
Whittier shot nearly 48 percent from the field and knocked down 11 threes, but Lewis & Clark delivered an elite shooting afternoon of its own, finishing at 59.2 percent overall and 42.9 percent from deep. The Poets hung tough throughout the second half, trimming multiple double-digit deficits, but were unable to slow the River Otters' consistent scoring inside and out.
Jonathan Duley (Rocklin, Calif. / Del Oro / Cuyamaca College) turned in another highly efficient performance, scoring 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting and hitting three more three-pointers. Brandon Andrews (Houston, Texas / Clear Brook / Palomar College) matched him with 19 points of his own, shooting 7-for-12 from the floor while pulling down seven rebounds. Jaden Mathis (Pasadena, Calif. / Pasadena / Palomar College) added 14 points with four made threes, and Peyton Guerrero (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Ocean View) stayed perfect from the field, finishing with 13 points on 5-for-5 shooting off the bench.
Sean Cervantes (Hacienda Heights, Calif. / La Mirada) reached double figures as well with 12 points and a team-high six assists, helping guide an offense that produced four players in double digits. In the frontcourt, Tochi Onyeador (Amuri, Nigeria / MEC / Los Medanos College) recorded 10 rebounds, his third double-digit rebounding effort in the last four games, continuing to set the tone on the glass.
Head Coach Mark Jensen and the Poets drop to 3-1 on the season and will turn their attention to conference play. Whittier hosts California Lutheran University on Wednesday, December 3rd at 7 p.m. at Dave Jacobs Court in their SCIAC opener.
