LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (May 7, 2025) – Two members of the Whittier College softball team have garnered All-SCIAC recognition for their statistical efforts during the 2025 SCIAC season: redshirt junior middle infielder
Kelly Nutter (Carlsbad, Calif. / La Costa Canyon / Cal State San Marcos | Palomar College) and graduating outfielder
Anna Rivas (Porterville, Calif. / Monache / University of Saint Katherine).
Nutter, a 2025 NFCA Watchlist player at the halfway point, was a no-brainer for her ability to put the ball in play. She hit .455 over the full season, maintaining that average in games exclusive to the SCIAC as well. In all, Nutter had 55 hits to lead the Poets and did not move from the leadoff spot all season. Her batting average and hit count ranked third among SCIAC players, and with Nutter announcing on Senior Day that she would be returning to Whittier for her final year of eligibility in 2026, she figures to be a strong contender for SCIAC Player of the Year, especially if the Poets can improve upon their five SCIAC wins next season. Even with that, Whittier finished the year just two games under .500, highlighting the SCIAC's top-to-bottom strength as a conference.
Nutter rounded out her stat line for the year with 32 runs, 11 RBIs and a team-high 17 walks, resulting in an OBP of .628.
Converse to Nutter was the performance of Rivas this season, who turned it on in SCIAC play to hit .400, one of just 23 players in the conference to do so. The outfielder came on strong at the end of the year to finish with 17 runs and 15 RBIs, helping her team to three wins in the final four games of the season.
