Women's Soccer Gives Up Seven Second Half Goals in Loss to Redlands

Whittier College women's soccer lost 8-0 to SCIAC rival University of Redlands on October 13.  The score was 1-0 at halftime, but the Redlands offense took control in the second half with 24 shots and seven goals.  The loss drops the Poets record to 0-13 overall and 0-9 in conference play.

The lone first half goal came in the 14th minute on a goal from Natalie Souders.  The Bulldogs took 15 shots in the first half, but only three were on goal.  The Poet defense forced a number of long range shots and defenders were constantly in shooting lanes, blocking and deflecting shots away from their goal.

The second half was a different story, with the Bulldogs taking 16 shots that were on goal.  Whittier goalkeeper, Lowhren Aceves '10 did her best to keep Redlands out of the net, making nine of her eleven saves in the second.  The barrage of goals started in the 52nd minute when Elizabeth Sorg scored the first of her two goals in the game.  They scored again a minute later to take a 3-0 lead.  Sarah Vert scored for the Bulldogs in the 66th minute and less than a minute later, Becky Willis scored her first of two goals for a 5-0 edge.  Redlands scored again in the 77th minute and then added a pair of goals in the final minute of the game to make the score 8-0 final score.

The Poets take on Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in SCIAC action on October 17.  The game takes place on the Donald E. Graham Soccer Field at 4pm.
