Whittier College lost 7-0 to Pomona-Pitzer in Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on September 22
in Claremont, Calif. The Poets are still winless this season
with an 0-7 overall record and are 0-4 in conference play.
Pomona improves to 3-3-1, 1-2-1.
All seven of Pomona's goals came in the first half. The
scoring began with back-to-back goals from Jenny Medvene-Collin in
the 11th and 14th minutes. She added
another point to her tally with an assist on the Sagehens' next
goal by Angie Martinez in the 15th minute.
Martinez also had two assists on the day. They scored again
in the 20th and 25th minutes before Paige
Maas capped the scoring with a pair of goals in the 28th
and 35th minutes.
The Poets were only able to muster one shot in the game while the
Sagehens peppered the Whittier goal with 18 shots, 16 of which came
in the first half. Poets goalkeeper Lowhren Aceves
'10 made five saves.
The Poets travel to Chapman University on September 26 for a
non-conference match-up. The game is scheduled for 5pm in
Orange, Calif.
