Three second half goals lifts La Verne past Whittier

LA VERNE, Calif. - For the second time this season the Whittier College women's soccer team lost to the University of La Verne in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. The Poets allowed three second half goals which allowed the Leopards to pull away for the 4-0 win.

The Poets (2-10-2, 0-8-1 SCIAC) played ULV scoreless for the first 41 minutes of the game but in the 42nd minute La Verne tallied the game winner from Stasy Muratalla.

The three second half goals all came within a 15 minutes of each other. La Verne tacked on a goal at the 54:55 mark, 63:58 mark an d67:24 mark.

Whittier was outshot 17-9 for the game and earned one corner kick to La Verne's six.

Goalie Lea Betsworth made five saves in the loss.

The Poets return to action on Wednesday, October 21, as they travel to Thousand Oaks, Calif., to face Cal Lutheran at 4 pm.
