Whittier falls on the road at Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran outshot the Whittier College women's soccer team 48-2 for the game and had 25 shots on goal as it handed the Poets its sixth straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference defeated, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

WC (2-11-2, 0-9-1 SCIAC) tallied a shot in each the first and second half but had difficulty containing the Regals' attack. CLU scored five first half goals which includes the first three in the eighth, ninth and 10th minute, respectively.

Lea Betsworth started in goal and made nine saves in the first half. Gina-Marie DiPierro played the final 45 minutes and stopped seven shots.

The Whittier defense stood strong on all seven Cal Lutheran corner kicks. The purple and gold did not allow a goal off the corner.

CLU was whistled for six offsides while WC had one.

The Poets return to action on Saturday, October 24, as they hit the road to face Claremont-M-S at 11 am.
