Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. - The Whittier College women's
soccer team played tough throughout their conference tilt and final
regular season home game with the Occidental Tigers in front of a
crowd of 100 but were unable to score falling 3-0.
The Poets (2-14-2 Conf. 0-11-1) were able to rebound from their
previous contest with the Tigers where they lost 7-1 but this time
around they were able to play solid defense in the first half until
a handball was called in the box allowing the Tigers to shoot a PK
and get on the board first at the 36th minute. The
Tigers then went into the half leading 1-0.
The Tigers were able to put 20 shots on goal for the game
compared to the Poets 5 and were able to capitalize on a couple
Poet miscues to score in the 54th and 84th
minutes.
Not only did Whittier play in their final regular season home
game but they acknowledged their three seniors who were playing in
their final home game. These seniors have contributed
tremendously to the women's soccer team over the past few years and
they included Mayra Murillo, Amanda
Martinez, and Kaitlin Rafferty.
Both Chelsea Irha and Shelly
Johiro led the Poets each having a shot on goal.
With the conclusion of the Poets women's soccer season, next
year continues to look promising as the Poets look to add more
depth and talent into their starting lineup.
