CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Whittier College
women's soccer team gave up four first half goals which proved to
be too much to overcome as the Poets dropped their second-straight
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game, 6-0,
to Pomona-Pitzer.
The Poets (2-3-1, 0-2 SCIAC) got behind early and could not
recover. Lea Betsworth played the first 45 minutes
in goal for the Poets and gave way to freshman Gina-Marie
DiPierro in the second half.
DiPierro allowed just two goals as the defense buckled down for
the final 45 minutes.
Pomona (2-4, 1-0 SCIAC) got off nine shots in the first half and
put seven on goal. Betsworth turned away three shots but Pomona's
Elli Seo stole the show as she scored the first three goals to earn
a hat trick and give the Sagehens a 3-0 advantage in the 26th
minute.
Whittier got off nine shots for the game and put six on goal.
Pomona's starting keeper, Alex Scharr, made saves on all six shots
on goal.
The Poets return to the friendly confines of the Graham Soccer
Field for its next tile. Whittier is schedule to face La Verne at 7
pm.
