REDLANDS, Calif. – It was a tough ending to a solid season for the Whittier College women's soccer team as it allowed a season-high five goals in a shutout loss to the University of Redlands on Saturday night.
The Poets (6-10-2, 2-9-1 SCIAC) established themselves as a contender in the conference throughout the season but were outmatched in the season finale.
Redlands scored four goals in the first half and added one insurance strike in the second frame for the 5-0 win.
Megan Wessel was under pressure all evening as she totaled 12 saves on 29 total Bulldog shots. Whittier managed five shots, all of which came in the second half.
Redlands scored just 2:02 into the contest and went up 2-0 after the Poets had an own goal off a corner kick. At 14:50 the Bulldogs pushed its lead to 3-0 and then ended the first half with a scoring strike at 28:54.
The Bulldogs added their final goal at 49:31.
Hannah Cooley and Andrea Smith each got off two shots for the Poets while Danielle Kwasniowski had the other shot for the purple and gold.
