CLAREMONT, Calif. –
The Whittier College women's soccer team dropped its first
game of the season on Wednesday evening, 2-0, to Pomona-Pitzer in
the SCIAC opener for both squads.
The Poets
managed to hold the Sagehens scoreless in the second half after it
allowed Pomona-Pitzer to score twice in the first frame.
The first
goal of the game came in the ninth minute from Allie Tao on a feed
from Traci Lopez. The Sagehens added their second goal at 30:07 on
an unassisted strike from Claire Mueller.
Although
she allowed the first goals of the season to be scored on her,
Megan Wessel made eight saves in the
loss.
For the
game, Pomona-Pitzer outshot the Poets 16-4 and put 10 of their
shots on net. Whittier managed a second half shot on goal but was
turned aside by goalie Talia Shulman.
Andre Smith,
Stephanie Bergstrom, Breeann Yamada and Anna Edwards all had a shot
for the purple and gold.
Whittier
returns to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Claremont-M-S
at 1 pm.
