THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Whittier College women's soccer team fell 12-1 to the No. 22 Regals of Cal Lutheran University who now run their record to 8-1, 4-0 SCIAC while the Poets drop to 0-8, 0-4 SCIAC.
The Regals win their 5th straight game and recorded the first goal of the match 21 seconds in when Taylor Will who was named the Female Athlete of the Week this past week recorded her ninth goal of the season from a cross from Kristen Cameron.
Cal Lutheran tacked on a second goal five minutes later as Kristina Hulse took a long ball in front of goal and dribbled around goalkeeper Shanna Falch to put away her fourth goal of the season.
In the 24th minute Whittier managed to get a shot off by Ashlin Steele who just missed wide right.
Will then tallied two more goals in the first half three minutes a part and Mayra Virgen then totaled two more goals for the Regals helping Cal Lutheran go into intermission up 7-0.
Coming out of the half, Whittier became more aggressive and in the 47th minute Stephanie Bergstrom connected on her first goal of the season from a beautiful cross by Allison Calabrese. With this goal, the Poets became a bit more energized, but the Regals Will and Cameron then put on back-to-back goals to put Cal Lutheran up 10-1.
In the 71st minute Chelsea Irha got a look herself as she put a ball on goal but it missed wide right.
In the final minutes, Cal Lutheran put on two more goals to put the game away as they came away with the 12-1 victory.
The Poets look to rebound from the loss as they travel to take on the Occidental Tigers, Saturday October 1 beginning at 7:00pm.
