CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College women's soccer team battled the inclement weather conditions under the lights Wednesday evening, but couldn't' overcome a late second half goal falling 1-0 to Claremont-M-S.
Afternoon rain in Claremont left the field soggy but playable for the SCIAC contest. Whittier came into the game looking for their first win overall and in conference while the Athenas were battling to get one of the top four spots in SCIAC.
Despite being outshot 9-3 in the first half the Poets managed to keep the Athenas out of the goal making it a scoreless game at the break. But eleven minutes into the second half, Athena forward Kerry Moller delivered the eventual game winner by adding an unassisted goal, which was good enough to secure the victory for CMS moving their record to 4-5-3, 3-2-2 SCIAC.
Rosemarie Orlando (San Pedro, Calif.) led the offense taking two shots with one being on goal, while Leila Afrasiyabi (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Madison Shipherd (Whittier, Calif.) each recorded a shot apiece.
Whittier returns to the friendly confines of the Donald E. Graham Soccer Field as they host Occidental College this Saturday, October 12 beginning at 7:00pm.
