LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College women's soccer team moved their losing skid to six games Wednesday evening as they fell 5-0 to Occidental College dropping to 0-6.
For the fifth straight game the Poets have remained scoreless being held to just four shots led by Madison Shipherd (Whittier, Calif.) who had two shots with one being on goal.
Elissa Minamishin led all scorers tallying two goals and an assist. Oxy jumped out in front 3-0 after 20 minutes of play and then added another two in the second half en route to the 5-0 victory.
Shortly after Minamishin opened the scoring on a lofting right-footed shot in the 7th minute, Kylie Takafuji freed up Michaela Tsuha with a through ball for Oxy's second goal in the 16th.
Minamishin then set up McCaully Patch less than 5 minutes later, giving Oxy a 3-0 lead at the break. In the second, Takafuji found the net in the 53rd minute on an unassisted shot from the top of the box.
Minamishin scored her second goal in the 74th minute on a penalty kick after being taken down inside the box.
The Poets look to snap their losing streak this weekend as they take on Cal Lutheran University on Saturday, September 21 with game time set for 1:00pm.
