WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's soccer team saw their home opener spoiled by the Bruins of George Fox University Friday night as they fell 1-0 dropping to 0-2 on the young season.

After playing a scoreless first half, the Bruins managed to come out of the break to add the eventual game winner in the 57th minute from Michelle Young who sent one in from outside the box that clipped the side post and past Poet keeper Shanna Falch (Doylestown, PA).

This proved to be good enough to secure the victory despite the onslaught of shots and looks from the Poet offensive unit.  For the game the Purple & Gold outshot the Bruins 14-3, held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, held the Bruins to just one shot in the second half, and saw junior captain Madison Shipherd (Whittier, Calif.) take a game high eight shots with three being on goal but could not come away with the victory.

Whittier remains at home this weekend as they host Pacific Lutheran on Sunday, September 8 with kickoff set for 11:00am.
