REDLANDS, Calif. – The Whittier College women's soccer team saw the University of Redlands add three goals in the second half en route to the 5-1 victory Wednesday evening.

Despite scoring a goal in the first half and staying within striking distance, the Poets were unable to top the Bulldogs as they would be outshot 24-4 for the game.

In the 14th minute Lihini Weerasinghe put UR in front with an early goal and would get on the opposite end of the Bulldogs second goal two minutes later finding Jen Franklin in the box following a cross, which moved the score to 2-0.

Whittier would cut the deficit to one right before the half as Blaire Persell (Temecula, Calif.) would be fed from Maegan Garcia (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) for her first collegiate goal.

But in the second half the Bulldogs would pull away adding another three tallies in the 64th, 65th and 80th minutes that secured the victory at Farquhar Field.  Leah Kolek (Diamond Bar, Calif.) led the Poet offense with two shots, while Alexi Cruz (Long Beach, Calif.) split time with freshman Christina Prieto (La Mirada, Calif.) finishing with five saves in 76 minutes.

Whittier returns to the field when they host Cal Lutheran University this Saturday, October 25 beginning at 11:00am.
