WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's soccer team put together a strong defensive performance Saturday morning but was unable to pull off the victory at the Donald E. Graham Soccer Field as they fell 2-0 to Cal Lutheran University.

Scoring again was an issue for the Purple & Gold as they took three shots for the game with two being on goal.

Cal Lutheran had a plethora of opportunities to get on the board early but they couldn't capitalize as freshman Caitlyn Schrepfer (Placentia, Calif.) would pick up two of her game high seven saves for the Poets.

CLU would get on the board however in the 39th minute when Nancy Nunez was fed a long ball from Kelly Morro, which she dribbled in to finish to the bottom right corner of the goal.

This would be the lone goal scored in the first half for the Regals as they took 11 shots compared to Whittier's one.

Whittier had a look for the equalizer midway through the second half coming off of a free kick, which freshman Ashley Gonzalez (Whittier, Calif.) would put on frame but it would hit the crossbar keeping the Poets off the scoreboard.

This would be the best look for Whittier in the second half offensively as they continued to play tough defense holding their opponent to just seven shots.  One of those would find the back of the net with three minutes to play, which put the game out of reach when Katelyn Kimball, granddaughter of Whittier college Hall of Famer Jim Olsen was fed a through ball from on top of the box, which she would finish past Schrepfer.

Whittier has two games remaining on their schedule.  They remain at home this Wednesday, October 29 when they host Pomona-Pitzer at 7:00pm for Senior Night.  They then wrap up their season on the road, Saturday, November 1 when they take on the University of La Verne beginning at 7:00pm.
