CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College women's soccer team again struggled to find their offense Saturday morning as they fell 1-0 to the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer in temperatures that soared over 90 degrees.
The Sagehens only needed a goal to hold off the Purple & Gold which came in the 14th minute when Rachel Keyser put in a through ball to the right side of the box to Katie Lao who found the far post for the eventual game winner.
Whittier had a great look for the equalizer in the 88th minute coming from Sophie Garcia (Bonita, Calif.) from 15 yards out but Sagehen keeper Annie Wedel would make a diving save that pushed the ball wide of the post, which preserved the 1-0 victory.
Pomona-pitzer held the advantage on shots 20-4 with only four being on goal as well as holding the edge on corner kicks 6-3.
Caitlyn Schrepfer (Placentia, Calif.) would play all 90:00 collecting three saves, while Leila Afrasiyabi (Los Angeles, Calif.) would lead the offensive unit with two shots.
Whittier returns to action this coming Wednesday, October 11 when they host La Verne at 7:00pm.
