WHITTIER, Calif. – For the first time this season the Whittier College women's soccer team was shut out as their offense stalled in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener falling 5-0 to Occidental College.
With the loss the Poets drop to 1-4-1, 0-1 SCIAC, while Occidental improves to 3-0, 1-0 SCIAC.
After the first half the game was pretty much decided as the Tigers took a 5-0 lead into the break scoring all five goals within a 33 minute window, which included four within the first 15 minutes of play.
In goal, freshman Caitlyn Schrepfer (Placentia, Calif.) got the start over Alexi Cruz (Long Beach, Calif.) but allowed all five goals against four saves in her season debut.
For the game, Whittier was outshot 14-3 with all three coming from senior Madison Shipherd (Whittier, Calif.). Whittier held the advantage on corner kicks 3-2.
The Poets continue with SCIAC play as they host Claremont-M-S this Saturday, September 20 at 7:00pm.
