WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's soccer team was shutout for the second straight game as they fell 3-0 to the Athena's of Claremont-M-S Saturday evening.
Playing without senior midfielder Madison Shipherd (Whittier, Calif.) who was out due to an injury matched up well with CMS in the early stages of the game until the 28th minute when Katelyn Faust found the back of the goal from atop the box.
This would be all CMS would need to pull off the road victory as Makella Brems and Isabel Lester would add insurance goals in the 31st and 55th minutes. Brems finished a cross to the near post to move the score to 2-0 before Lester would tally the final score getting a through ball, which she then carried into the box finishing past freshman keeper Caitlyn Schrepfer (Placentia, Calif.).
Schrepfer finished the game in her second start of the season with nine saves against 12 shots. The Poets were outshot 18-7 but held the advantage 3-1 on corner kicks.
Kaela Reisfelt (Castaic, Calif.) led the offensive unit with six shots with four being on goal.
Whittier hits the road this next week Wednesday, September 24 as they take on Chapman University beginning at 4:00pm.
