CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Soccer team suffered a tough 2-0 loss on the road to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens Wednesday afternoon.
The Purple & Gold have now lost two straight as they drop 5-3, 2-3 SCIAC, while Pomona-Pitzer improves to 5-3-1, 3-1-1 SCIAC.
Whittier didn't have an answer for Lily Gane of the Sagehens who tallied both goals on the day. Both goals came in the first half and that proved enough for the shutout.
The first goal came in the first two minutes of the game. Isa Berardo found Gane making a run in the box who wound up striking a goal kick through the Poets defensive unit, which proved to be the eventual game winner. She then came back eight minutes later to add her second as Lindsay Piwinski made a run down the left side before serving in a box into the box that found the head of Gane who put it away for insurance.
The Purple & Gold were held to their lowest offensive output on the season with six total shots, which included just two in the first half. Stella Thermos (Seal Beach, Calif.) played all 90:00 in goal and finished with four saves, while Clarissa Field (Whittier, Calif.) led the Poets with three shots with one being on goal.
Whittier returns home this Saturday, September 30 as they host Claremont-M-S beginning at 11:00am.
