WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Basketball team suffered the Blues Monday night as they fell 71-52 to No. 21 Whitman College.

The Purple & Gold now drop to 2-3, while Whitman remains perfect on the year at 5-0, with all five wins coming on the road.  Cali Cubel (Oceanside, Calif.) once again powered the Poets offense delivering a game-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting.  Freshman Bella Robles (Lompoc, Calif.) added eight points with six boards and Teani White (Burbank, Calif.) chipped in with another eight points along with two boards, an assist and three steals.

For the Blues, Makana Stone became the ninth player in program history to score 1,000 points as she finished with 12 points on the night.  Whitman was led by Mady Burdett with 17-points, 15 of which came from three-point territory.

White got the game going with a triple but that was quickly answered by a 10-0 run by the Blues.  Cubel ended the run with a pair of jumpers that cut the deficit to three, but Whitman would then go on to end the 1st Quarter with an 11-2 run pushing the score to 21-9.

Whittier fought back in the 2nd Quarter putting up fourteen-points but couldn't make a dent into the Whitman lead as they still trailed by 14 at the break.  Out of the half Whitman extended their lead to as many as 20 but saw that advantage cut down to 15 thanks to a 6-0 run by the Poets all coming from Cubel who converted a four-point play and a lay-up.

But this would be the closest WC would get the rest of the way as the Blues would move the deficit to 25 with 2:40 to play in the 4th.  Whittier shot 35% from the field and 25% from three-point territory.  They did outrebound the Blues 34-30 but turned the ball over 20 times, which led to 25 points for Whitman.

Freshman Dallas Martinez (Kaneohe, HI) led the bench with four points and two assists.  Cyerra Dillard (Fremont, Calif.) added four rebounds and two blocks and Darleen Jae Berberabe (Long Beach, Calif.) with three points and two rebounds.

Whittier returns to the court the day after Thanksgiving, November 29 when they host Willamette University beginning at 12:00pm.
