Poets' Tournament Hopes Alive After 1-0 Loss to Sagehens

Box Score

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct 22, 2022) - Whittier's postseason tournament hopes remain alive after it fell 1-0 to first-place Pomona-Pitzer Saturday afternoon on the road. Four teams qualify for the SCIAC playoffs, and the Poets currently stand fifth with two matches remaining.

The lone goal of the match was scored in the 26th minute by junior Isla Burch.

Reigning SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week Poets goaltender Vanessa Martinez made five saves in the game.

Whittier's next match comes at home Wednesday against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which will be critical for playoff consideration, given CMS' status as the fourth-place team in the conference.
