Box Score WHITTIER, California (March 30, 2023) - In its first home contest in nearly two months and the last ever Locker-Stabler Cup, the Whittier College men's lacrosse team dropped a tough rivalry game, 15-8, to Colorado College Thursday night.
The first quarter was a close affair, with the Tigers leading, 2–1, after a quarter of play. The Poets got on the board on an unassisted goal from sophomore midfielder Luke McElligott.
However, the Tigers expanded their lead in the second quarter, and led 8–3 at halftime. The two-second quarter goals came via sophomores midfielder Kalwin Iha and attacker Owen Wallace, both unassisted.
The Poets came out hot to start the second half, scoring back-to-back goals to cut their deficit to three. Sophomore midfielder Colin Warme scored the first goal coming out of the intermission, while senior attacker Connor Hoemann scored the second while being a man up.
The Tigers scored two more goals, pushing the lead to 10–5. For the Poets, Wallace would score his second goal in the contest while being a man up. The Tigers would then score the final two goals of the quarter, going up 12–6 heading into the final frame.
Whittier totaled just two goals in the quarter, falling, 15-8.
Wallace and Iha led the Poets in scoring, while senior midfielder Devin Tamblyn led the team in assists with one in the contest.
The Poets return to action Friday, as they take on Centenary College at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time on neutral turf in Colorado.
