Box Score

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 7, 2023) - The Whitter men's college lacrosse team exploded for 20 goals, walloping Centenary College in Colorado, 20–5.

The Poets got started early, scoring five goals in the first quarter. Senior attacker Mason Leet found the back of the net twice, while sophomore midfielder Colin Warme and sophomore attacker Owen Wallace each earned themselves a goal in the quarter.

Two Poets joined in on the scoring extravaganza in the second quarter, with sophomore midfielder Kalwin Iha scoring twice in the frame and freshman attacker Nathan Palumbo scoring the other Whittier goal in the quarter.

The defense was on point for the Poets through three quarters of play, holding Centenary College to three. In the third, the Whittier offense exploded for nine goals, the team's highest-scoring quarter of the season!

Leet scored five goals himself in the quarter, and the Poets also received goals from Palumbo, Warme, Iha and freshman midfielder Tyler Hilmar.

While Centenary scored twice in the fourth quarter, it was nowhere near enough. Freshman attacker Maurice Holmes, senior midfielder Noah Tobias and senior defender Jack Mahony joined in on the goal party before the game ended.

Leet led the way in goals scored for the Poets, putting up seven by the final horn. Senior attacker Connor Hoemann led the way with assists, adding two to his season tally.

The defensive performance from the Poets was spectacular, with sophomore keeper Jayden Warlum facing just eight shots on goal. By the end of the contest, the Poets forced 42 turnovers, a season high.

After falling to Colorado College Saturday, Whittier's next game is on the road against Westminster in Utah this coming Saturday, April 15 at 11 a.m. PT.
