Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (April 22, 2023) – For the final time in program history, the Whittier College men's lacrosse team walked off the field Saturday, delivering a 20-10 win over UCLA Bruins club lacrosse at Memorial Stadium with a win. The team honored its seniors before the game.
The Poets exploded offensively in the first two quarters, earning 17 goals by halftime. The defense also held strong, limiting the Bruins to two goals in the first half.
Already leading handily, Whittier took the gas off the pedal, scoring just three goals in the second half to the Bruins' eight.
Senior attacker Mason Leet dominated the day, scoring an impressive seven goals on the day.
Alex Coco, who is a junior in terms of athletic eligibility and a senior academically, also went out in style, earning three goals and a game-high five assists to close out his Poet career.
Two Poets scored twice: senior Joshua Peavey and sophomore Kalwin Iha, while six Whittier players found the net once each: first-year attacker Max Texter, senior midfielder Noah Tobias, senior attacker Connor Hoemann, first-year midfielder Tyler Hilmar, sophomore midfielder Luke McElligott and first-year faceoff/midfielder Zachary Carnate.
Freshman Ryan Rosselli had 16 saves in the contest.
It was a memorable day for everyone part of or touched by the Whittier men's lacrosse program. On Saturday evening, the team held its banquet, which featured an awards presentation and touching words from the coaches.
