LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2024) -- Freshman forward
Jessica Jensen (Las Vegas, Nev. / Liberty) of the Whittier College women's soccer team has been named SCIAC Newcomer of the Year for not only her offensive contributions, but for the energy she brought to a Whittier team that finished fourth in the SCIAC standings and made its first SCIAC Postseason Tournament in seven years (first under Head Coach
Derek Hanks).
Jensen co-led the Poets with four goals during the regular season, then scored a fifth against Chapman University in the aforementioned Postseason Tournament game. Jensen was a particular thorn in the Panthers side with three of her five goals coming against the SCIAC's fifth-place team.
The freshman striker makes it consecutive years of SCIAC Newcomer of the Year awards for Hanks' program. Sophomore forward
Madeline Traylor (Covina, Calif. / Charter Oak) picked up the honor last year, and with Jensen should make for a lethal Whittier combination up top for the next two years.
