GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 1, 2025) – Right fielder
Joe Plaskett (Fremont, Calif. / Washington) of the Whittier College baseball team has added a new accolade to his decorated junior season in 2025. Plaskett was recently named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Defensive team for Region 10.
The SCIAC dominated the list, accounting for seven of the nine designations between five different schools. This past season marked Plaskett's first as the Poets' everyday right fielder. He had previously earned Second Team All-Region distinction from D3Baseball.com in large part due to his career season at the plate (11 home runs, 42 RBIs), but now gets due recognition for his defensive contributions. Over the 40 game season, Plaskett was tagged for just one error, resulting in a .989 fielding percentage, though he was perhaps more importantly credited on six outfield assists that helped save his team plenty of runs. This, again, is even more impressive considering the junior's contributions over his first two years in Whittier came as a relief pitcher and designated hitter.
Players selected to the ABCA NCAA Div. III Region All-Defensive teams are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove honors.
Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 41 countries.
