Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (Sept. 17, 2025) – The Whittier College women's soccer team, led by senior goalkeeper
Mya Rodriguez (Visalia, Calif. / El Diamante / College of the Sequoias), opened SCIAC play on the road at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Wednesday evening, contending in a game that featured plenty of back-and-forth offense.
Rodriguez made 11 out of a possible 13 saves in the face of deep and talented CMS attack. The Poets went knock for knock with the Athenas for nearly the entire first half before conceding the first goal of the game with 40 seconds to go in the first frame.
From there, the Poets were forced to open up their offense over the game's final 45 minutes. This stretch saw junior
Victoria Martinez (Palmdale, Calif. / Knight / College of the Canyons) and freshman
Lauren Young (Alhambra, Calif. / Mark Keppel) each generate a pair of chances, accounting for four of the Poets' eight shots on net while the rest of the squad kept the Athenas honest throughout the contest. By game's end, 25 out of a possible 40 Poets saw game action on Wednesday, which can only be seen as a service to the squad ahead of the team's remaining 12 SCIAC games the rest of the way.
Head Coach Derek Hanks and the Poets will next host Justice College on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 8 a.m.
