Brendan Murphy Tabbed Interim Head Coach of WLAX

Murphy will look to aid the program with over a decade of coaching experience

WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 25, 2026) – Brendan Murphy has been named as the Interim Head Coach of the Whittier College women's lacrosse program for the remainder of the spring. Murphy was previously on staff as the team's assistant coach.

Last month, the Whittier College Athletic Department announced the suspension of its women's lacrosse program for the 2026 season. However, there are no plans to shutter the program for good, and Murphy, a decade-plus veteran in the coaching world, will figure to play a key role in the transition of leadership.

Prior to Whittier, "Coach Murph" most recently assisted at Mater Dei High School and had coaching stints at Portola High School and Northwoods High School in Arizona. He is also the Head Coach and Program Director for the Girls 518 Skyfire Club, a competitive travel program for high school athletes. As a player, Murphy featured for Herkimer County Community College and the University of Albany in his native New York.
