CLAREMONT, Calif. - The
Whittier College women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of
the season in dramatic fashion as the Poets erased a seven-goal
deficit at the half with nine-goals in the second half en route to
the 12-11 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday evening.
The Poets (1-1) were led by Sherise Varga and
Lauren Bibby who each had three points in the win.
Bibby tallied two goals and one assist while Varga scored a
team-high three goals.
The purple and gold trailed 10-3 at the half but stormed back
for the one-goal win.
The combination of Jessica Farrell and
Conny Joel made 10 saves for the Poets while
Ana Garcia corralled a team-high six groundballs.
Emily Mukai scored two goals while Amy
Cirbo and Katie Clinnin each added a goal
apiece. Clinnin also had one assist on the game.
The Poets return to action on Monday, March 2, as they travel to
Claremont, Calif., to face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7:00 p.m.
