REDLANDS, Calif. – Seven days removed from scoring a season-high 25 goals against Pomona-Pitzer, the Whittier College women's lacrosse team was held to a season-low seven goals as SCIAC foe Redlands handed the Poets their fifth loss in their last six games, 15-7, on Wednesday evening.

Whittier (3-7, 2-3 SCIAC) was led by the three-point evening of Carolyn Mukai (2g, 1a) who scored WC's first at 17:36 of the first half. Mukai's goal answered Redlands' first strike of the game at 18:00.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-1 with a two-goal spurt at 17:11 and 16:03, respectively, but Kaitlin Fithian cut the advantage to 3-2 with a free-position goal two minutes later.

Lauren Bibby recorded the last goal of the half with 8:04 remaining to make the score 5-3 at the break. Bibby's goal came off a feed from Trillium Santin.

Redlands (8-3, 3-1 SCIAC) put the game away within the first six minutes of the second half with a five goal runt open the half. Mukai and Bibby but the lead to 10-5 but couldn't close the gap within five goals for the rest of the game.

Alex Holtz scored the final two goals for Whittier at 7:32 and 4:54.

As a team the Poets held Redlands to 14-of-20 on clears while WC made good on 11-of-16 attempts. The draws were relatively even as UR held a 13-11 advantage.

The Poets return to action this weekend with a trip to Ohio to face Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg and Denison.
