REDLANDS, Calif. –
Seven days removed from scoring a season-high 25 goals against
Pomona-Pitzer, the Whittier College women's lacrosse team was
held to a season-low seven goals as SCIAC foe Redlands handed the
Poets their fifth loss in their last six games, 15-7, on Wednesday
evening.
Whittier (3-7, 2-3 SCIAC) was led by
the three-point evening of Carolyn Mukai (2g, 1a)
who scored WC's first at 17:36 of the first half.
Mukai's goal answered Redlands' first strike of the
game at 18:00.
The
Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-1 with a two-goal spurt at 17:11
and 16:03, respectively, but Kaitlin Fithian cut
the advantage to 3-2 with a free-position goal two minutes
later.
Lauren Bibby recorded the
last goal of the half with 8:04 remaining to make the score 5-3 at
the break. Bibby's goal came off a feed from Trillium
Santin.
Redlands
(8-3, 3-1 SCIAC) put the game away within the first six minutes of
the second half with a five goal runt open the half. Mukai and
Bibby but the lead to 10-5 but couldn't close the gap within
five goals for the rest of the game.
Alex Holtz scored the
final two goals for Whittier at 7:32 and 4:54.
As a team
the Poets held Redlands to 14-of-20 on clears while WC made good on
11-of-16 attempts. The draws were relatively even as UR held a
13-11 advantage.
The Poets
return to action this weekend with a trip to Ohio to face Ohio
Wesleyan, Wittenberg and Denison.
