REDLANDS, Calif. – Injuries and the No. 16 Bulldogs were too much for the No. 27 Poets to overcome as the Whittier men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss to Redlands Saturday morning at Verdieck Courts.

Redlands (11-11, 4-2 SCIAC) won all three doubles matches and followed that up with a clean sweep in singles competition.

Whittier faced a total of five regionally ranked opponents with the first two coming in pairs. The top team of Patricio Carregha and Julian Seneviratne lost 8-4 to the region's No. 4 team of Jeff Casserd and Camerson Spearman.

The new look No. 2 team of Chris Schommer and Fran Sun fell 8-1 to the West's No. 15 team of Conner Hyde and Mark Bloom.

Seneviratne and Spearman went head-to-head at the top singles spot in one of two regional ranked matchups. Spearman, who is ranked No. 7, topped the No. 20 ranked Poets, 6-3, 6-2.

Carregha, who recently moved up to No. 25 in the West, was forced to retire down 2-1 in the second set because of injury. Hyde, who is ranked No. 24 in the region, won the first set, 6-4.

Schommer put up a fight at No. 3 singles but lost 6-3, 6-2, to Bloom. The Redlands' third position player is ranked No. 30 in the region.
