Ronald Kang Named Director of Tennis

Kang will look to rebuild the Poets in one of Division III's strongest tennis regions

WHITTIER, Calif. (June 21, 2024) – Ronald Kang has been named as the new Director of Tennis at Whittier College. As Director of Tennis, Kang will oversee the recruiting, coaching, and development of the men's and women's tennis teams, and looks to make the Poets competitive in one of the toughest tennis regions Division III has to offer.

"I'm proud to welcome Ron to Whittier College Athletics," Director of Athletics Rock Carter said. "We had a deep pool of candidates, but Ron stood out as one that would work hard at not only elevating the program, but possess the energy and work ethic to sustain it over the long haul. I'm excited to see what he brings."

Kang is a 2019 graduate of Azusa Pacific University where he majored in history and featured as a starter in both singles and doubles on the men's tennis team. As a senior, Kang won 12 singles matches and an incredible 19 doubles matches. He also previously attended Mt. SAC, where he garnered ITA JUCO All-American honors. At the conclusion of his playing career, Kang joined the coaching staff at Occidental College, where he coached leading up to him joining the Purple & Gold.

A Southern California local, Kang is from Monterey Park and attended high school at San Gabriel Academy where he was a dual-sport athlete in football and tennis over multiple seasons.
