WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College men's tennis team ran into a roadblock this week as they dropped a tough 9-0 decision to No. 4 Amherst.

It was all Amherst from start to finish as they swept doubles 8-4, 8-5, 8-5 before sweeping singles.  No. 23 David Konstantinov and Chris Schommer dropped their first doubles match of the season against a Division III opponent as they fell 8-4 to Joey Fritz and Justin Reindel.

Konstantinov then ran into No. 14 Fritz at No. 1 singles and saw his 11 match-winning streak come to a close as he fell 6-2, 6-2.

Playing without Troy Chavez at No. 5 singles who was out due to a back injury, Ben Belletto was forced to shift the bottom of the lineup moving Mark Anthony Kenney to No. 5 and Tyler Linscott to No. 6.

Shogo Shimizu was the lone Poet to go three sets at No. 4.  After dropping his first set 6-2 he fought back to win the second 7-5 before falling 10-7 in the ten point tiebreaker that secured the clean sweep for Amherst.

Whittier has two matches tomorrow, Saturday, March 22 when they travel to Claremont, Calif. to take on Claremont-M-S at 10:00am before hosting Hope International at 3:00pm and wrapping up the day with an Alumni Match in the nightcap.
