No. 13 Pomona-Pitzer edges Poets 6-3 in season finale

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College men's tennis team saw their regular season come to a close Friday as they fell 6-3 on the road against No. 13 Pomona-Pitzer dropping their record to 9-10, 3-4 SCIAC.

Head Coach Ben Belletto returned to his previous program but was unable to come away with the upset victory despite winning three of six singles matches.

Whittier fell behind early after doubles with lopsided losses at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.  They had an opportunity at No. 2 to come away with one victory but a late break for the Sagehens allowed Sam Crawford and Jonathan Kim to win 8-6 over Samuel Farmer and Troy Chavez putting PP in front 3-0.

The Purple & Gold put together a push in singles however taking three of six led by David Konstantinov at No. 1 who cruised past Chris Walters 6-3, 6-2.  Farmer pulled off his biggest win of his collegiate career at No. 3 beating Connor Hudson in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 before Chavez followed suit at No. 4 winning 7-5, 3-6, 12-10. 

Mark Anthony Kenney had a battle at No. 6 against Joshua Kim but a break in each set would solidify the victory for Pomona-Pitzer 6-4, 6-4.

Whittier begins preparing for the Ojai Tennis Championships set to take place this weekend, April 25-27 up in Ventura, Calif..  Draws are posted at the Ojai Championships Official Site.
