Men's lacrosse handles Illinois Wesleyan 17-9

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Whittier College men's lacrosse team evened their trip to Illinois Saturday as they rolled past Illinois Wesleyan 17-9 at Tucci Stadium.

Whittier improved to 6-3, while Illinois Wesleyan dropped to 7-2. 

The Purple & Gold used a seven goal first quarter to open the game up and stayed in front the entire contest holding the advantage on shots 53-28, groundballs 48-25, and face offs 28-30. 

They led 11-3 at halftime en route to the lopsided victory, while senior Nathan Kleponis (Tustin, Calif.) collected three saves in the win.  Steven Laduzinsky for the Spartans had a career high 17 saves. 

Tommy Andrews (Tustin, Calif.) led the offensive unit with three goals on four shots to go with five groundballs.  Kevin Ewing (Annapolis, MD), face off specialist Scott Pescheret (Eagan, MN), and Matt Symes (Coquitlam, BC, Canada) had two a piece.  Maxwell Jones (Fircrest, WA) despite only having one goal on the afternoon had a game high three assists.
