WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team found their offense Wednesday night as they totaled seven goals, but had no answer for the Claremont-M-S offense as they fell 15-7 at Memorial Stadium.
This marks the third straight loss for the Purple & Gold as they drop to 0-3, 0-3 SCIAC, but continue to make drastic improvements following each game.
CMS opened up the game adding the first eight goals in the first nine minutes. Rebekah Delledera (Livermore, Calif.) stopped the run at the 8:32 mark with an unassisted goal and Tiffany Reyes (Scottsdale, AZ) would add Whittier's second with 31 seconds left in the half that moved the score to 10-2.
30 seconds into the second half the Athena's would strike for their eleventh goal but the Poets would fight back with two unanswered from Taylor Pool (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Meesha Robinson (Redondo Beach, Calif.) that cut the deficit to seven.
Following a mini run by CMS, which included back to back goals from Molly O'Donnell on free positions the Poets would respond scoring three of the final four goals of the game with two coming from freshman Angelina Cuevas (Long Beach, Calif.) and the other from Reyes but it wouldn't be enough as Claremont-M-S held on for the eight goal victory.
Senior Nicole Yorba (Poway, Calif.) who continues to lead the conference in saves (45) finished with another spectacular game between the posts picking up 18 saves against 33 shots. Delledera finished the game with a goal, five groundballs, a draw control, and two caused turnovers, while Robinson picked up a goal, four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Whittier travels this Saturday, February 28 as they take on the University of Redlands beginning at 7:00pm.
