CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College men's tennis team ran into the top ranked Stags of Claremont-M-S Saturday but fell 9-0 despite Samuel Farmer going the distance with Warren Wood.
Farmer highlighted the morning forcing Wood, one of the top ranked players in the country to three sets at the top spot. Farmer lost a quick 6-0 first set but bounced back strong winning 6-3 in the second before falling 6-1 in the third.
All three doubles matches were close with the No. 2 team of Farmer and Ian Ross (Altadena, Calif.) losing 8-5 to Skyler Butts and Daniel Morkovine one of the top doubles teams in the country. Tyler Linscott (Tuscon, AZ) also proved a tough test for Morkovine in singles dropping serve once in each set to lose 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4, while David Stanko (Morena Valley, Calif.) batteled with Butts at No. 2 falling 6-4, 6-2.
