CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team fought in the first half and was within two after the first thirty minutes Saturday, but faltered in the second half allowing Claremont-M-S to pull off the 16-5 victory.

It's been a story of two halves in conference play this season for the Purple & Gold but they continue to battle pushing opponents.  Tonight, they trailed early 3-0 in the first ten minutes of action but fought back to score three of the next five goals from Meesha Robinson (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and freshman Angelina Cuevas (Long Beach, Calif.), who added a man-down tally.

The Poets trailed by two 5-3 at the break but saw a tough second half unravel with CMS adding 11 goals, which included the final nine scores of the contest.

Robinson pulled WC within one 5-4 right out of the break and would add another minutes later that kept the Poets within striking distance, but that would be the last offense gathered as the run by the Athena's would seal the victory.

Robinson finished with three goals on four shots, had three groundballs and two caused turnovers.  Cuevas finished with two goals had four groundballs, two draw controls, and a caused turnover, while Nicole Yorba (Poway, Calif.) totaled 12 saves in the loss.

Whittier returns for their final home contest this Wednesday, April 15 as they host Redlands beginning at 7:00pm.
