WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team added five goals in the second half with four being in a row in an eight minute span but it wouldn't be enough as the Sagehens would hold on for the 16-8 victory.
The Poets (2-9, 0-6 SCIAC) couldn't comeback from a 12-3 deficit at the break. Pomona-Pitzer scored the first six goals of the game before Meesha Robinson (Redondo Beach, Calif.) stopped the bleeding at the 12:08 mark with a free position goal.
Freshman Angelina Cuevas (Long Beach, Calif.) would find the back of the net for the second Whittier goal and Robinson would add her second of the game two minutes later that cut the deficit to five.
Out of the half, Pomona-Pitzer would extend the lead to 14-3 before an unassisted goal from Rebekah Delledera (Livermore, Calif.) would stop the 6-0 run.
Minutes later she would spark the four unanswered tallies with Taylor Pool (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Robinson, and Tiffany Reyes (Scottsdale, AZ) adding the other three.
But this run wouldn't be enough as PP would add a man down goal with 1:42 to play that secured the road victory.
Robinson led the offense with three goals and three groundballs, while forcing three turnovers. Delledera had a great stat line with two goals, three groundballs, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers and Nicole Yorba (Poway, Calif.) picked up nine saves against 25 shots.
Whittier hits the road for two games beginning with Chapman University this Wednesday, April 8 beginning at 7:00pm.
