COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – For the second time this season the Whittier College men's lacrosse team has dropped a heartbreaker to Colorado College as they fell 10-6 at Washburn Field.
This marks the seventh straight loss for the Purple & Gold against their West Region rival as they drop to 5-6 here in 2015.
The Poets and Tigers swapped goals midway through the first period but it would be the unassisted tally from Henri Halle with :10 seconds left in the period that put CC ahead to stay.
Austin Davie gave Colorado College a 3-1 lead with a man-up goal 3:24 into the second period before Aaron Self (San Clemente, Calif.) connected for his first of the game being fed by Foster Cunningham (San Anselmo, Calif.) that cut the deficit to one.
But that's as close as Whittier would get as CC would add the final two strikes to end the half that gave them a 5-2 lead at the break.
Nick Hernandez (La Mesa, Calif.) was the lone Poet to find the back of the goal in the third period as CC stretched their lead to 8-3. WC put together a run in the fourth outscoring the Tigers 3-2 with goals from Matt Symes (Coquitlam, BC, Canada), N. Hernandez, and Dan Prevedel (Denver, CO) but it wouldn't be enough as CC would hold on for the four goal victory.
Scott Pescheret (Eagan, MN) led the Poets on groundballs with eight and won nine faceoffs, while Alex Cramer (Rocky Hill, CT) totaled nine saves.
