CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team saw their offense stall Saturday being shutout in the first half en route to falling 7-3 to Claremont-M-S.
The loss marks the third in a row for the Purple & Gold and was held to their lowest offensive output all season.
CMS added two of there four first half goals in the first five minutes both coming from Corie Hack. Ellen Berkley and Zoe Pinczower would put the Athenas up 4-0 heading into the break.
In the second half, Whittier would find the back of the goal three times with Lauren Tudor (Bellevue, WA) and Rebekah Delledera (Livermore, Calif.) answering with back-to-back strikes in the first three minutes. This cut the CMS lead in half but they would get another soon after from Hack that moved the score to 5-2.
Melanie Rizzotti (Mukilteo, WA) would add the final goal for the Poets coming at the 15:48 mark and on a free position attempt, but that would be the last time Whittier would find the back of the goal as CMS would go on to hold on for the four goal victory.
Delledera finished the game with a goal and an assist, had a groundball, four draw controls, and a caused turnover. Tudor had a similar stat line with a goal and an assist that went with a groundball, and three draw controls.
Between the posts, Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) finished with 12 saves against 19 shots playing all 60 minutes.
Whittier returns home this Saturday, March 5 as they host Occidental College beginning at 11:00am.
