WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team dropped their fourth straight game Saturday falling 21-9 to Claremont-M-S at Memorial Stadium.
Angelina Cuevas (Long Beach, Calif.) got the Poets on the scoreboard quickly with a goal on the Purple & Gold's first possession getting fed by Lauren Tudor (Bellevue, WA). But CMS would counter adding the next 10 goals that put the game out of reach early 10-1.
Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA), Cuevas, and Jess Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) ended the run with three of the next four goals that kept Whittier in striking distance. Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) would get into the mix with her first goal soon after but CMS would add the final three tallies to end the half that made the score 15-5.
In the second only a combined 10 goals were score. E. Hansen got the Poets off on the right track with a free position. Tudor answered with a man-up opportunity on the Poets next possession and Meanor capped off the early run with a goal at the 21:42 mark that pulled Whittier within seven.
But Whittier would be held off the scoreboard over the next nine minutes before Meanor would add her third of the contest with 12:30 to play and that would be the final strike added by the Purple & Gold as CMS would add the last three that put the game out of reach.
Meanor led the scoring effort with three goals, while E. Hansen and Cuevas each had two.
Cuevas also recorded five draw controls, three groundballs, and two assists. Tudor finished with a goal and an assist, five groundballs, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
