WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team saw their senior day spoiled Saturday afternoon as Pomona-Pitzer would go on to win 15-6 at Memorial Stadium.
This was the Poets final regular season game as they moved to 7-10, 1-9 SCIAC and saw their losing skid move to six games.
Pomona-Pitzer rattled off eight unanswered in the first 20:00 that set the tone for the rest of the game. Angelina Cuevas (Long Beach, Calif.) would stop the run with 7:33 to play in the first half with a free position goal and would then come back a minute later to find the back of the net again this time being fed by Rebekah Delledera (Livermore, Calif.). Melanie Rizzotti (Mukilteo, WA) would add the last strike of the first half with 5:04 to play that cut the deficit to six at the break.
Lauren Tudor (Bellevue, WA) kept the run going out of the half with an unassisted goal that moved the score to 9-4 but PP would respond with three of their own that extended the lead back to eight.
Cuevas capitalized on another free position attempt for her third of the game and R. Delledera would add one herself with 2:22 to play in the game that rounded out the Purple & Gold scoring.
Cuevas led the Poets with three goals and an assist, while picking up three groundballs and grabbing two draw controls.
Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) played all 60:00 and had 14 saves against 29 shots.
Whittier enters the SCIAC Post Season Tournament this Wednesday, April 27 as they travel to take on Chapman University beginning at 7:00pm.
