ORANGE, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team exited the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships Wednesday evening falling 15-7 to Chapman University.
Despite holding a 5-4 lead at the break, the Purple & Gold were unable to stop the 11 goals added in the second by the Panthers being outscored 11-2 in the stanza en route to the eight goal loss.
Danielle Zahn got CU on the scoreboard first four minutes in. Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) and Rebekah Delledera (Livermore, Calif.) then got together to combo to put WC in front 2-1 soon after.
The game then became a back and forth battle with the Poets tying things up at the 21:06 mark from R. Delledera who added an unassisted goal before Angelina Cuevas (Long Beach, Calif.) and Jess Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) would wrap up the first half with goals in the final ten minutes giving Whittier a 5-4 lead.
Whittier was held to just two goals in the second half coming in the first ten minutes from Gabby Boller (Howell, NJ) and E. Hansen but they couldn't stop the run of eight unanswered by the Panthers soon after that lifted them to the victory.
R. Delledera finished the game with two goals and two assists and three draw controls. J. Hansen had a goal and two assists and Cuevas finished with a goal and an assist, a groundball, and three draw controls.
Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) played all 60:00 finishing with 11 saves on 26 shots.
Whittier wraps up their 2016 campaign 7-10, 1-9 SCIAC and return 10 of their 12 starters for the 2017 season led by Cuevas, Tudor, and Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, Calif.).
