ORANGE, Calif. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team couldn't overcome a slow start Saturday evening as their comeback would fall short dropping a 13-6 decision to Chapman University.
CU added nine goals in the first half taking a 9-1 lead into the break. The Poets lone goal came from Angelina Cuevas (Long Beach, Calif.) at the 11:18 mark that broke a six goal run by the Panthers.
In the second half, Whittier came out strong outscoring the Panthers 5-4. Rebekah Delledera (Livermore, Calif.) got the Poets their second goal three minutes into the second half. Freshman Gabby Boller (Howell, NJ) would capitalize on a man-up being fed by teammate Lauren Tudor (Bellevue, WA) and freshman Lexi Meanor (Sewickley, PA) would get her first of the game a minute later being fed by Cuevas.
The final two goals came from Jess Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) and Cuevas over the final 10:00 but the Purple & Gold wouldn't be able to get anything else as CU would hold on for the seven-goal victory.
Cuevas recorded two goals and an assist on five shots. Delledera and Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) would each pick up three goundballs a piece and Meanor would register three draw controls.
In goal Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) got the start collecting eight saves against 18 shots. Emily Olague (San Ramon, Calif.) played the final 11:18 collecting two saves.
Whittier looks to get back on track as they host Redlands this Wednesday, April 13 beginning at 7:00pm.
