WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Tennis team looked to build momentum following a 6-3 win over Hardin-Simmons but couldn't get a footing as they fell 6-3 to Babson College.
The Purple & Gold drop to 2-6, 0-1 SCIAC.
The Poets got a quick point in doubles from Maxwell Koszowski (Denver, CO) and Thomas Koszowski (Denver, CO) winning 8-3 at the top spot. Babson leveled the match winning at No. 3 8-5 before taking the edge 2-1 following a come from behind victory at No. 2 8-7. Pim Van Der Veer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Matt Yanuck (Studio City, Calif.) played together for the first time and they played tough jumping out in front 7-4 but couldn't hold it as they allowed the Beavers to come back.
In singles, Whittier attempted a comeback with Van Der Veer and Yanuck avenging their doubles loss. Van Der Veer took out Alberto Mendiola at the top spot in a three-set battle 6-3, 6-7, 10-7. Yanuck then followed sweeping Brandon Rosenbluth 6-1, 6-4.
The Poets had an opportunity to pick up another point at No. 6 from Chris Palacio (El Centro, Calif.). He fought back from being a set down to force a third but couldn't come away with the victory as he fell 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.
