WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Tennis team has faced a tough start to their 2020 season as they dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 1 Claremont-M-S.

The Purple & Gold remain winless on the year at 0-5, 0-2 SCIAC.

Whittier battled in doubles to get the morning going.  With Thomas Koszowski (Denver, CO) out due to injury Head Coach Aron Hayes was forced to shift his doubles lineup around.  At the top spot he put Maxwell Koszowski (Denver, CO) and Pim Van Der Veer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) together but they fell 8-2.  At No. 2 he then kept Matt Yanuck (Studio City, Calif.) in but paired him with junior transfer Rafael Maniego (Rocklin, Calif.) dropping an 8-3 decision.

The tight match came at No. 3 from Ian Ross (Altadena, Calif.) and Zachary Ambrosio (Moreno Valley, Calif.) who earned an early break but couldn't hold it as they fell 8-4.

In singles it didn't get any better for the Purple & Gold who were swept in straight sets 1-6.  Van der Veer created some pushback against Nic Meister at the top spot falling 6-1, 6-3.  M. Koszowski earned a 6-2, 6-1 final at No. 4 and Yanuck would fall 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.
