CLAREMONT, Calif. – It was a tough Saturday for the Whittier College Men's Tennis team running into No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer getting blanked 9-0 on the road.
The Purple & Gold fell behind early 3-0 after doubles despite the No. 2 and No. 3 teams pulling out three games apiece. Then in singles things didn't get any easier as WC would get swept 6-0. Matt Yanuck (Studio City, Calif.) put together a strong performance at No. 3 going 6-4, 6-1 against Hayden Snyder. Jesse Eccles (Queenstown, New Zealand) followed at No. 4 against Quinn Hirsohn and after dropping a 6-2 opening set was able to battle in the second only to fall 6-4.
Junior transfer Rafael Maniego (Rocklin, Calif.) found himself in the starting lineup at No. 6 facing off against Nils Skattum. After a tight opening set at 6-3, Maniego wasn't able to carry the momentum into the second as he would fall 6-2.
