RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2021) – The Whittier College women's golf team, led by sophomore Caroline Valle (Las Vegas, Nev. / Sierra Vista), competed in its first in-season fall tournament in nearly two years at the Fall Redlands Shootout, which took place at The S at Rancho Mirage over the weekend.
Valle, who finished +10 for the tournament, had her best round on Sunday when she shot a four-over 76. The round included four birdies, two of which occurred on Par 4's and two of which occurred on Par 5's. The two-day tournament also represents the first time Valle has been able to represent the Poets after the COVID-19 pandemic put an end to her freshman season of competition before it could begin. Senior Natalie Gonzalez (Norwalk, Calif. / Santa Fe) matched Valle's first round in the second round by shooting a six-over 78 en route to finishing in a tie for second-place among competing Poets. She tied with freshman Leanne Telle at +16, 24th overall out of 38 competing SCIAC golfers. Meanwhile, junior Aleena Mendoza (Victorville, Calif. / Cobalt Institute of Math and Science) and freshman Jacqueline Torres (Gilroy, Calif. / Gilroy) also completed both rounds for the Purple & Gold, rounding out the leaderboard.
Head Coach Doo Kang and the Poets will finish out their fall schedule on Saturday, Oct. 2 when they compete at the SCIAC Quad Match at Anaheim Hills Golf Course.
